Background Symmetries in Orbifolds with Discrete Wilson Lines

چکیده
Target space symmetries are studied for orbifold compactified string theories containing Wilson line background fields. The symmetries determined are for those moduli which contribute to the string loop threshold corrections of the gauge coupling constants. The groups found are subgroups of the modular group P SL(2, Z) and depend on the choice of discrete Wilson lines and the shape of the underlying six-dimensional lattice.

Modular Symmetries of Threshold Corrections for Abelian Orbifolds with Discrete Wilson Lines
The modular symmetries of string loop threshold corrections for gauge coupling constants are studied in the presence of discrete Wilson lines for all examples of abelian orbifolds, where the point group is realised by the action of Coxeter elements or generalised Coxeter elements on the root lattices of the Lie groups.
متن کاملTarget Space Duality in Orbifolds with Continuous and Discrete Wilson Lines
Duality symmetry is studied for heterotic string orbifold compactifications in the presence of a general background which in addition to the metric and antisym-metric tensor fields contains both discrete and continuous Wilson lines.
متن کاملEnhanced Symmetries of Orbifolds from Moduli Stabilization
We study a supersymmetric field theory in six dimensions compactified on the orbifold T 2/Z2 with two Wilson lines. After supersymmetry breaking, the Casimir energy fixes the shape moduli at fixed points in field space where the symmetry of the torus lattice is enhanced. Localized Fayet-Iliopoulos terms stabilize the volume modulus at a size much smaller than the inverse supersymmetry breaking ...
متن کاملHeterotic string backgrounds and CP violation
In the framework of ZN orbifolds, we discuss effects of heterotic string backgrounds including discrete Wilson lines on the Yukawa matrices and their connection to CP violation.
متن کامل(Non-)Abelian discrete anomalies
We derive anomaly constraints for Abelian and non-Abelian discrete symmetries using the path integral approach. We survey anomalies of discrete symmetries in heterotic orbifolds and find a new relation between such anomalies and the socalled ‘anomalous’ U(1).
